Governance

Membership Insurance
All Snowsport Cymru Wales membership includes liability insurance. It protects you if you are held responsible and are negligent for causing injury to a third party or have caused damage to a third party’s property.

DBS Checking Service
Snowsport Cymru Wales is able to process standard, enhanced and enhanced with barred list(s) DBS checks for its members. For SSW volunteers there is NO CHARGE for this service.

Adaptive Snowsport

With a number of artificial slopes throughout Wales there’s plenty of opportunities for school children to get involved in snowsports and develop their skills to very high levels.

Ski & Border Cross
Taking place on snow only, ski cross and snowboard cross feature banked turns, rollers and jumps, as well as the excitement of four racers competing at once.

With a fixed toe and a free heel, Nordic skiing takes in everything from Cross Country and Telemark to Biathlon and Ski Jumping.

Park & Pipe is an exciting new focus area for Snowsport Wales. We are developing a structured freestyle pathway through domestic and eventually alpine camps, alongside dedicated competitions. The aim is to create clear progression and greater opportunity for athletes pursuing the freestyle side of the sport in Wales.

Our annual Welsh Alpine Championships are held in Champéry, Switzerland. There are five days of racing for both GBR competitors and FIS licence holders, plus training facilities in the resort before the Championships.

REGIONAL Academy

Our Regional Academy Programme is designed to provide a comprehensive, exciting and challenging programme for ski racers from minis through to national champions. It aims to set new and high standards for everyone involved as well as to provide additional training opportunities for young ski racers.

PROGRAMME PARTICIPATION CRITERIA

All athletes must:

be registered as competitors for the 2026 season
in regular training with their local club
be committed to ski competition (proven record of national competition participation)
commit to the majority of the Academy Programme
have all their own ski equipment

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA FOR JOINING THE ACADEMY SESSIONS

(see Criteria Guidance Video)

U14 and Older – Performance Criteria

carved arcs – making large radius carved arcs engaging both edges before the fall line
javelin turns – making large radius javelin turns on medium terrain, lifting the inside ski in the first 3rd of the turn
linked turns on 1 ski – linking 4 turns on one ski (keeping the other ski on) – both feet, on easy terrain

U10/12 – Performance Criteria

making large radius arcs mathcing both edges before the fall line

Age category qualification is based upon 2025 summer artificial slope categories as follows:

AGE CATEGORY	YOB
U10	2016/2017
U12	2014/2015
U14 (& older)	2013 and before
