Racing Returns to Llandudno

After a 15 year break from national ski races, we had an amazing return to ski racing on the slopes of Llandudno for the Welsh National and Open Championships 11/12th September 2021. The weekend of ski racing also doubled up as the finals of the GB wide national series of races the Eola GBR Series

Over 140 competitors participated in the two day event which decided Welsh National Champions, Welsh Open Championships titles and settled the Overall 2021 Eola GBR Series winners.

The feedback we received over the weekend was really positive. Everybody loved the ski slope and new surface. There were plenty of ‘wows’ about the views. And, of course, the races were a really high standard.

Overall winners from both days of racing were Rebecca Hart and Ryan Bloom. U10/U12 winners were Lowri Howie and Charlie Sylvester. All Welsh registered or members of Welsh clubs.

It was also really pleasing to see both the numbers of Welsh competitors participating (doubling from numbers in 2019) and levels of performance from our Welsh athletes (significant numbers of overall podiums).

Following significant investment from Sport Wales, matched by facility owners John Nike Leisuresport, the 200m ski slope was redeveloped in 2019 allowing a return to ski racing and training.

Teams and Clubs have been making great use of the facilities for training throughout the pandemic (when we were able to ski and train, obviously). Feedback from everyone concerning the ski slope has been excellent and we certainly know that our skiers from Wales have made amazing progress as a result of training at this facility.
